Overview

Follow The Leader by FarOut Publishing is a intermediate youth novelette that coincides with the cultural era and spirit of the films such as Beat Street and Breakin'—echoing its rhythm, creativity, and emphasis on self-expression through sound and movement.

Rather than retelling or adapting the films, Follow The Leader exists alongside it, drawing from the same cultural heartbeat: a time when music was mentorship, rhythm was identity, and leadership emerged through listening as much as expression.

Written for a new generation, the story translates those core ideas into a childhood centered narrative about confidence, creativity, and understanding of when to follow—and when to lead.

Follow The Leader honors the legacy of Hip-Hop and Pop culture in its formative years while creating its own lane, reminding young readers that leadership is learned through rhythm, respect, and rise of community.

Meet Rockit...

A young lead conductor who discovers that the strongest spirit of rhythm isn’t the loudest—it’s the one that listens. As he walks through the city with his glowing microphone, Rockit is joined by E.B., Tina, Luna, Milo, and Nova, each adding their own sound to the journey. Together, they learn how to move as one, balancing energy, patience, and creativity while facing moments of pressure, doubt, and excitement. Along the way, they discover that leadership isn’t about control or attention—it’s about making space for others, staying true to the beat inside, and knowing when to guide and when to listen.
